Ask Gov. Brown to Veto the Measure if it Reaches his Desk
Dear California activist:
The California Senate is expected to vote this week on AB 131, a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to apply for financial aid – including grants and scholarships – at local community colleges and the University of California and California State University systems. Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed companion legislation (AB 130) that makes illegal immigrants eligible for scholarships derived from non-state funds received by a public college or university.
Governor Brown and select Senators need to hear that Californians do not want to subsidize the education of people who are not allowed to work in the United States. Republican Senators uniformly oppose AB 131 so we are asking NumbersUSA members to contact targeted Democratic Senators only.
If your Senator is one of the targeted Democrats listed below, please check your Action Buffet for a phone note and fax. If you have a Republican Senator or your Democratic Senator is not on the list, please call the seven Senate targets.

Talking Points
I am asking you to veto AB 131 if it reaches your desk.
At a time when higher education faces severe program cuts, and American students face tuition and fee hikes, it makes no sense to give illegal immigrants taxpayer-financed assistance.
Financial assistance should be reserved for citizens in need. For every illegal immigrant given financial assistance, an American student is turned away.
Even if these illegal immigrants get a college degree, they cannot legally obtain employment here. That means that California taxpayers will have subsidized the education of people who can’t legally use their degree in the United States.
Given our budget crisis, I do not understand why this bill is even under consideration. AB 131 an affront to taxpayers and must be vetoed!
